This states that they only use this surfaces for educational purposes and if you break the agreement you could deal with law enforcement’s(Worst Scenario)
The games are blocked on computers
But in 7th grade one of my fellow classmates showed me that you could download this browser called “Opera.” and turn VPN on and you could play any game you wanted to.
My schools search engines are bad, it just takes barely any work to play games. (beatable.)
2. Teachers can watch your screen
I have seen this in person when asking teacher a question so they can stop you from playing a game. They have a monitor just full of surfaces screens with the user name above.
3. Teachers can take a screenshot of whatever your doing on your surface/computer and email it to your parents
That’s pretty good, I’m not sure other schools do that.
4. You can go to the High school library and get info about digital citizenship and online safety from Mrs. Parnell
Ask all you want open 8-5 on school days
5. My school teaches about digital citizenship and online safety at the elementary
6. My school has a collaboration class that is about online safety and digital citizenship
Which I am currently in.
Is my school doing enough to aid students on online safety and digital citizenship?
Yes and NO!
Reasons why yes
40% of schools don’t teach about digital citizenship and online safety
The five reasons I have listed
Reasons why no
there has been instances where people at my school weren’t safe online and posted some stuff
we can always do better
have the search engines block all games
How well is my school doing?
Really well but there is always room for improvement, just listed them. I actually learned online safety and digital citizenship there at the elementary (props to them). There is barely any cyber bullying so the school is in good shape.
In my last article I talked about online safety and digital citizenship. Now we are discussing what are other schools are doing to teach about online safety and digital citizenship or do they have classes? Let’s find out.
We are doing schools All over the world
Area Number #1 Wilkes County, North Carolina
Wilkes County
If you were to drive from Charlotte to Wilkes County it would only be a 1.5 hour drive.
Wilkes County provides kid friendly search engines, teaching resources, and games about digital citizenship and online safety. They provide this from kinder garden to 12th grade. And teachers are required to teach it. They are definitely doing more than my school. We sort of have a kid friendly search engine were it blocks stuff like games but you can surpass that using other browsers. We also have activities like making a movie on it and teaching on it. But Wilkes County is far superior to my school they have tons of safe browsers, games, and teaching aids compared to my school.
Wilkes county enforces that these to be taught for for the whole county, my school only does the school.
Area Number #2 West Chester School District, Pennsylvania
They got recognized by common sense for their teaching efforts on online safety and digital citizenship. Common sense is one of the first websites that pop up when you search about and bullying and online safety. This is a huge accomplishment.
– Harassment and bullying have been linked in some way to 75% of school shooting incidents
We can’t always stop or prevent school shootings but you can do a few things
Check on people at your school every week or so and see how they are doing
If you see cyber bullying online tell a Adult or a teacher.
Even if we have every school teach about cyber bullying and online safety be school shootings and bullying. No one is perfect
From my research, it is very hard to find information about schools that publicly show on a website maybe this is because schools just hand teach are not proud enough, or never thought they need to publicly en-from the world that they teach about digital citizenship and online safety. I feel that it is a mix of all three.
Schools are not doing enough to stop cyber bullying because they enforce after it happens maybe before you send anything.
Dear Schools
Hope will take make consideration
No matter how much you stress digital citizenship and online safety stuff will happen! People will plagiarize and etc. but… teaching about digital citizenship and online safety will prevent most things but remember you can’t prevent stuff. People can’t just prevent cancer it doesn’t just be prevented. Please teach about digital citizenship and online safety just don’t expect perfection (example) no one in the school history has plagiarized. It’s kind of like when you study for a test and don’t do good as you expected, it happens rarely like school shootings.
I am not against schools teaching about digital citizenship and online safety just remember you can’t prevent everything.
Overall my school is at least teaching about digital citizenship and online safety but they can have..
a more clear digital citizenship and online safety pledge
more classes on digital citizenship and online safety ( My 7th grade year I had no info or classes on online safety.)
games on online safety and digital citizenship
Is my school doing enough to aid students on online safety and Digital citizenship
It is never enough. If we as a school do that then there will most likely be less cyber bullying as a whole. Personally, there is more bullying at school than online.

Or in simpler terms of having the most possible safety against personal info. and property while using social media or the internet.
How Online Safety and Digital Citizenship apply to Social Media and the Internet.
If you do not apply Online Safety and have good Digital Citizenship you or someone else will either have property stolen, feelings hurt, and many more unforgivable things such as your identity being stolen. Also always remember what ever you post will always stay online forever.
-85% of teens parents that have kids between 13-17 report that there child has a social networking account. And that was 2011 so the number is most likely in the high 90’s in percentage.
-25% of teens reported having a experience online that resulted in a face to face confrontation with someone
So 1/4 teens had a experience that had a face to face talk. It could be a good or bad experience.
-13% of teens say when cyber-bullying happens they are nervous about going to school the next day. That is unacceptable.
-90% of teens have witnessed cyber bullying have ignored it. Which is good number because if it was 100% that would be bad because people would ignored those threats that are serious.
In 2015 60% of schools teach about digital citizenship, which was around 36% but that means 40% of the U.S.’s future doesn’t know or isn’t properly informed about digital citizenship. Digital citizenship should be required in the world.
75% of school shooting were caused by cyber bullying. So, if we stop that a lot more people will not get hurt, that were innocent.
1 out of 10 students who drop out of school because of cyber bullying. Which affects the econmony. And 1 out of 20 students has seen another student with a gun at school.
Also suicide rates have gone up from ages 10-14 by 50% in the last three decades, Maybe it was better back then without T.V. and social media.
